The Vision: Merging Form and Function

The objective of this project was to transform a standard living room wall into a cohesive architectural statement. The client requested a white custom built in that would provide both functional storage and a sophisticated backdrop for their home media. By flanking the central hearth with floor-to-ceiling cabinetry, we created a sense of symmetry and permanence that significantly elevated the room’s atmosphere.

The Challenge: Seamless Architectural Integration

One of the primary challenges was ensuring the fireplace mantel and the surrounding cabinetry felt like a single, unified piece of furniture rather than disparate elements. We achieved this through a meticulous trim out process. By extending the crown molding across the entire unit and integrating the mantel’s pilasters with the bookcase gables, the transition between the masonry and the woodwork became invisible, creating a bespoke, high-end look.

The Result: A Transitional Masterpiece

The centerpiece of the installation is the exquisitely tiled fireplace. We utilized a light grey arabesque pattern for the surround, complemented by a white herringbone tile hearth for the floor transition. This subtle play of patterns adds texture and visual interest without overwhelming the clean, white finish of the cabinetry. The final result is a transitional living space that balances traditional craftsmanship with modern utility, featuring adjustable shelving, recessed panel doors, and a perfectly framed media center.
