The Project

Located in a vibrant North Austin neighborhood, this project centered on the creation of a sophisticated, simple oak wood wine cellar. The objective was to transform a compact interior space into a climate-controlled showcase that balanced high-capacity storage with a minimalist, modern design language.

Craftsmanship and Materials

The focal point of the installation is the custom-milled white oak cabinetry. Chosen for its structural integrity and elegant grain, the oak was finished with a clear matte sealant to preserve its natural warmth. The design features a blend of traditional vertical racking and diamond-patterned X-bins for bulk storage, all accented by integrated LED tape lighting. The lighting is precision-recessed into the woodwork to highlight the collection without compromising the temperature sensitivity of the wine.

The Solution

To bridge the transition between the living area and the cellar, we installed a custom black steel and glass entry door. This architectural element provides an airtight seal for climate control while offering an unobstructed view of the craftsmanship within. By prioritizing simple geometries and premium materials, we delivered a functional storage solution that serves as a refined visual anchor for the home's interior.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

White oak is a top choice for Austin homeowners due to its closed-cell structure and natural resistance to rot, which is vital for climate-controlled environments. We utilize custom-milled white oak finished with moisture-stable matte sealants to ensure the minimalist cabinetry remains structurally sound despite the constant humidity levels required for wine preservation.
Our North Austin installations feature precision-recessed LED tape lighting designed with low-thermal output. By calibrating the millwork reveals and integrating heat-shielded channels into the oak shelving, we highlight your collection with high-CRI light while maintaining the strict temperature-controlled environment essential for vintage longevity.
Custom black steel and glass doors offer a modern architectural seal that is far superior to standard wood frames. These units utilize dual-pane tempered glass and airtight gaskets to preserve the vapor barrier, preventing condensation issues common in Texas humidity while providing a minimalist, unobstructed view of your custom wine racking.
Yes, our design process includes custom-milled diamond X-bins and precision horizontal racking to accommodate varying bottle diameters. We prioritize functional versatility in our North Austin projects, ensuring that the transition between standard 750ml bottles and larger formats is handled with clean, consistent millwork lines and optimal storage density.
From initial design and reveal calibration to final installation, clients should typically expect a lead time of 10 to 14 weeks. This timeline accounts for the specialized milling of white oak and the fabrication of custom steel elements, resulting in a high-durability, climate-secure installation that serves as a permanent value-add to the home's interior.
