The Design Concept

This project represents the pinnacle of contemporary wine storage, merging aesthetic transparency with rigorous technical requirements. The client requested a custom wine cellar that could serve as a centerpiece for their main entertaining space. Our approach focused on a modern glass floating wine racking system, which eliminates the visual weight of traditional wooden bins in favor of a sleek, minimalist silhouette that allows the collection to remain the focal point.

Materials and Craftsmanship

The installation utilizes a combination of industrial-grade tension cables and precision-machined metal pegs to create an ethereal floating effect. These elements are anchored between a custom-fabricated veined quartz countertop and the ceiling, ensuring structural integrity for a full collection. Below the stone workspace, we integrated bespoke cabinetry finished in a muted grey stain, providing additional high-density storage for crates and larger bottles. The enclosure is constructed from floor-to-ceiling tempered glass panels, meticulously fitted to ensure a tight seal for the air-controlled environment.

Technical Execution

Precision climate control was a primary requirement given the expansive glass surface area. We utilized a discrete, high-performance cooling system designed to maintain constant temperature and humidity levels without disrupting the clean lines of the room. Every joint in the glass-to-metal transition was engineered to prevent thermal leakage, ensuring the longevity of the vintage collection. The result is a sleek, modern cellar that offers a gallery-like view of the wine while providing the ultimate protection for the aging process. The installation is finished with teardrop pendant lighting that casts a warm glow across the floating bottles, completing this high-end architectural statement.

Frequently Asked Questions

To combat Central Texas heat, we utilize high-performance, discrete cooling systems paired with floor-to-ceiling tempered glass panels. Every joint undergoes rigorous engineering to prevent thermal leakage, ensuring a hermetic seal that maintains precise temperature and humidity levels without compromising the sleek, minimalist aesthetic.
Absolutely. Our modern floating systems employ industrial-grade tension cables and precision-machined metal pegs designed to handle the weight of a full vintage collection. These elements are anchored directly into structural headers and custom-fabricated quartz surfaces to ensure absolute structural integrity and perfect reveal calibration.
For our bespoke cabinetry, such as the grey-stained base units in this project, we apply a high-build conversion varnish. This specialized finish provides superior moisture resistance and durability compared to standard paints, protecting the wood grain from the constant humidity required for cork preservation.
Custom cellar projects generally involve a 10-14 week lead time. This allows for the precise design of bespoke millwork, sourcing of industrial-grade metal components, and the meticulous fabrication of custom-fit tempered glass. Our local Austin team manages the entire process from initial site measurements to the final installation of teardrop pendant lighting.
