The Vision

The objective was to transform an expansive living room wall into a functional masterpiece. Our team was commissioned to design a custom wood built-in with a dedicated spot for the TV and ample shelving for decor. The goal was to bridge the gap between traditional architectural details and modern functionality, ensuring the entertainment technology felt integrated rather than imposing.

The Craftsmanship

Constructed from premium white oak, this installation features a sophisticated transitional aesthetic. The lower cabinetry utilizes raised-panel doors and drawers to provide substantial concealed storage for media components and household essentials. Above, we engineered a modular shelving system with varying heights to accommodate art, books, and family heirlooms. A subtle, textured grasscloth backing was applied to the shelf interiors to add a layer of organic luxury and visual contrast against the wood grain.

The Solution

To ensure the piece felt architectural rather than like furniture, we extended the crown molding to meet the ceiling and utilized integrated picture lighting across the top headers. This lighting serves a dual purpose: illuminating the curated decor and providing soft ambient light for evening film viewing. The result is a seamless, wall-to-wall library and media center that serves as the home’s primary focal point, blending high-end joinery with everyday utility.

Frequently Asked Questions

White oak is highly sought after in Central Texas for its exceptional durability and its ability to take a range of stains while maintaining a neutral, modern grain. We finish our white oak suites with a premium conversion varnish to protect against local humidity levels and UV exposure, preventing the wood from ambering over time while maintaining its organic, tactile feel.
Our designs utilize precision-engineered TV cavities with recessed cord management and heat ventilation channels. For the Greenwich suite, we implemented integrated picture lighting and flush-mount headers to ensure the electronics feel like a curated part of the library rather than an after-thought, bridging the gap between traditional millwork and modern tech.
TX Cabinet Pros utilizes superior joinery techniques, including solid wood dovetail drawer boxes and premium under-mount soft-close slides. The lower cabinetry in this suite features raised-panel doors constructed with traditional cope-and-stick joinery, providing structural integrity and a sophisticated transitional look that outperforms standard modular furniture.
Our bespoke process—from the approval of detailed shop drawings to final on-site installation—typically spans 8 to 12 weeks depending on the complexity of the millwork. Being local to Austin allows our team to perform precise reveal calibration and crown molding scribing during the final install phase, ensuring a perfect, seamless fit against your home's existing architecture.
